Inhibition of Riboflavin Metabolism in Rat Tissues
نویسندگان
چکیده
on a weight basis to those used clinically has significant effects upon riboflavin metabolism in the animal as a whole: (a) the activity coefficient of erythrocyte glutathione reductase, an FAD-containing enzyme used as an index of riboflavin status physiologically, was elevated, a finding compatible with a deficiency state, (b) the urinary excretion of riboflavin was more than twice that of ageand sex-matched pair-fed control rats, and (c) after administration of chlorpromazine for a 7-wk period, tissue levels of flavin mononucleotide and FAD were significantly lower than those of pair-fed littermates, despite consumption of a diet estimated to contain 30 times the recommended dietary allowance. The present study suggests that certain psychotropic drugs interfere with riboflavin metabolism at least in part by inhibiting the conversion of riboflavin to its coenzyme derivatives, and that as a consequence of such inhibition, the overall utilization of the vitamin is impaired. Application of Riboflavin-Deficient Rat Erythrocytes in the in Vitro Assay of Faba Bean Toxicity
Background: Faba bean toxicity (favism) is a common condition observed in our region. Objective: To develop a short and simple technique involving the use of riboflavin-deficient rats to test in vivo faba bean toxicity. Methods/Results: Sprague Dawley rats were maintained on a riboflavin-deficient diet and their vitamin B2 status was monitored by the assay of erythrocyte glutathione reductase (...

Neoplasms, in general, have considerably lower metabolite and enzyme concentrations than do most normal tissues (1, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 15). Since competitive inhibition by an antimetabolite depends upon the concentration ratio of a metab olite and its antagonist, it is reasoned that an antagonist may interfere with some metabolic step to a greater degree in cancer tissue than in those normal ...
متن کاملEnzymic basis of deranged foetal flavin-nucleotide metabolism consequent on immunoneutralization of maternal riboflavin carrier protein in the pregnant rat.
A comparison of the kinetic and other parameters of enzymes of flavin-nucleotide metabolism in the whole foetus vis-à-vis the maternal liver in the pregnant rat revealed relatively lower activities of foetal flavokinase and FAD pyrophosphorylase. Passive immunoneutralization of the maternal riboflavin carrier protein suppresses foetal FAD pyrophosphorylase rather selectively. Additionally, alth...

Herein, fast Fourier transformation square-wave voltammetry (FFT-SWV) as a novel electrochemical determination technique was used to investigate the electrochemical behavior and determination of Riboflavin at the surface of a nanocomposite modified carbon paste electrode. The carbon paste electrode was modified by nanocomposite containing Samarium oxide (Sm2O3)/reduced gra...
